An officer from the New Canaan Police Department on patrol at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Thursday morning stopped a vehicle driven by South Salem resident Christopher Mannix Schlarb when he was clocked driving 60 mph in a posted 40 mph zone.

Schlarb, 41, was stopped near the intersection of New Norwalk Road and Old Kings Highway, and upon speaking with him, officers said that they smelled alcohol on his breath. Schlarb proceeded to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was arrested at the scene.

At New Canaan Police Headquarters, Schlarb refused to submit to a breathalyzer and was charged with driving under the influence and cited for speeding. Schlarb was released on $250 bond and is due in court on Oct. 10 to answer the charge.
